Title: Innocent Traitor: A novel of Lady Jane Grey
Author: Alison Weir
Publication date: 2007
Number of pages: 416 p.
Book genre if applicable (i.e., romance, mystery, suspense, thriller): historical

Basic plot and how does it develop?
This is the story of Lady Jane Grey’s life (she was a contemporary of Queen Elizabeth I) and the manipulations of Lady Jane’s family and the court to have her installed as the Queen of England in the 1500s. Unfortunately for Lady Jane, Bloody Mary became the queen and Jane was beheaded.

The main characters &/or your favorite character?
Lady Jane is the main character and the story is told in Jane’s voice as well as the voices of several others including her mother and her nurse.

Setting of book &/or atmosphere?
We are introduced to Jane as a baby and learn of her upbringing and education, much of which takes place at her family’s estate. Many scenes take place at the royal court where Lady Jane’s parents spend most of their time.

Highlights (best parts) &/or Weak or not as engaging parts?
The book gives the reader an insight to the royal court and the goings on of the royals. It is interesting to learn of the manipulations and machinations of members of the Court as King Edward grows weaker and weaker.

Anything else?
This is Alison Weir’s first book of fiction, she is known for writing biographies of British royal families including Henry VIII and Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Rating of book?

Setting of book &/or atmosphere?
This book takes place in the open range and canyons of Wyoming.

Highlights (best parts) &/or Weak or not as engaging parts?
The best part of the book is when Angie tries to figure out the clues left in the letter her great-grandfather sent to his wife before he was hung for train robbery. The clues are meant to lead her to the hidden gold. There were no weak parts. It was a quick read.
